Our History

Roberto Casappa, the founder of the company, produced the first hydraulic gear pump. It was used as a spare part for American dumper trucks (GMC, Dodge, and Chevrolet) left in Italy at the end of the Second World War.
"The golden pump" was the name it was given upon its rediscovery. Today it’s the prize exhibit in the Casappa S.p.A. museum. 

The business moves to a more suitable site, where Roberto and his young and enthusiastic sons, Renato and Luciano, produce pumps and valves for industrial vehicles. 

Renato Casappa tries out the first test stand designed and developed together with the University of Bologna.

Casappa takes part in its first trade fair, the Samoter Trade Fair in Verona, in the construction machine sector.

Luciano Casappa works on the first "transfer" type machine instrument, intended for the production of "C series” aluminium pumps.

Production is moved to the new factory in Cavalli di Collecchio, Casappa’s production site today.
Five thousand covered square metres, equipped with new machine tools to meet growing market demand.

Casappa forms a partnership with Walvoil, a significant partnership in the hydraulic sector.

A natural extension of Casappa’s product range.

In order to inform the market that Casappa is not only a manufacturer of pumps and motors, together with its partners, Casappa has become a supplier of the main components in hydraulic circuits.

Despite the economic recession at the time, Casappa believes in the potential for further growth, and invests heavily in new production space, adding 8000 sq.m.

Casappa intends to be a leading player in the international hydraulics market. The American market represents a great opportunity but success there requires a local presence.
This first subsidiary was followed by Casappa Sarl in France and Casappa Gmbh in Germany.

This is a very important step in terms of organization and quality, also guaranteed by the highly respected reputation of the certifying institute, BSI (British Standards Institution)

Casappa S.A.R.L. was founded in Lyon FRANCE.

Casappa GmbH was founded in Stuttgart GERMANY.

Filters are a strategic component for a widening product range and for protecting hydraulic circuits.

With the aim of optimising the production lay-out, and of  having the necessary space for new investments in machine tools and automations, a new factory building of 5000 sq.m. is built at the Parma site, the first part of an expansion project.

Casappa celebrates 50 years of activity and looks towards the future with a development plan that aims to double productive capacity.
The principal events:

- "Ideas in Motion" conference has discussed company strategies with researchers, suppliers and customers.

- An enjoyable setting in the historic Felino Castle and an "open door" day in the Collecchio site.

The quality system is updated to comply with the new "ISO 9001:2000 standard" requirements. The standard is a fundamental point of reference for the new type of clientele that Casappa has acquired.

A new site is acquired for Casappa Corp in Batavia, in the metropolitan area of Chicago, confirming the company’s faith in potential for growth in the USA market.
An independent factory building of 3,600 sq.m. with offices for around 400 sq.m. and with the possibility for extension up to 6,000 sq.m.

Further expansions increase Casappa manufacturing plant to a covered surface area of 21,000 sq.m. and an innovative new production layout.

On February 14th 2005 the University of Parma awarded Renato Casappa an honorary degree in Mechanical Engineering.

The motives given for this award presented by the Rector, Gino Ferretti, were:".....The activities and skills developed by Renato Casappa, both in the technical field and in the managerial field, are of a very high level and fully correspond to the necessary skills of a Mechanical Engineer". 

Casappa Hydraulics Korea was founded.
The first Asian sales branch in South Korea.

Casappa donates a new lab test bench for hydraulic components to the Department of Industrial Engineering - Parma University.
For over 40 years Casappa has enjoyed fruitful cooperation with many Universities in Italy because we believe that the research and technological innovation are the key to staying competitive.

The Casappa strategy is to become a significant player in the market of Piston Pumps and Motors for Mobile Hydraulics.
To this end we have allocated important investments both in machinery for fabrication and in dedicated engineers with specific know how.

Casappa  completes its design to start manufacturing in China: roughly 6000 square meters covered and equipped with the experience derived from over fifty years of activity in hydraulics.
State of the art machinery, assembling, testing, painting, before and after sales full assistance, thanks to a well trained and supported local staff. 

In spite of a global market rather depressed, Casappa keeps on investing in R&D and introduces two new families of products: Polaris PH and KAPPA 25 series.

A new electronic pressure control for the MVP piston pump that replaces the traditional hydro-mechanical pressure limiter.
A further substantial improvement in energy savings and controllability of the machine.
The addition of a swash plate position sensor allows more inputs for control of the pump

Founded in 2011 in São Paulo State, Casappa do Brasil is the first branch in South America

CASAPPA India established in 2011 at Mumbai, the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra but also considered the commercial capital of India. 

In 2012 we received "Silver" recognition from Caterpillar, allowing Casappa to participate in all their new projects at each plant worldwide.

New variable displacement axial piston pumps swash plate design "MVPD" Series.
Higher flow rates than traditional pumps with same dimensions, higher speeds and high power-to-dimensions ratio.

Casappa implements an Enterprise Resource Planning System to connect Headquarters with branches.

On the 17th, 18th and 19th of June 2015 at the Headquarters of Parma the first "International Sales Meeting" took place. It was a historic event among Casappa's colleagues from around the world.

It was fundamental to share results and information in addition to defining common strategies in order                                                                       
to face future challenges.

In 2016 Casappa achieved ISO/TS 16949 and the renewal of ISO 9001 certification.

The recognition of the daily commitment by the Company, to continuously improve and maintain the highest quality standards.

Caterpillar Awards Casappa Italy and Casappa China with the SQEP Certification.

On November 21st Casappa delivered the " One Million Pump", the 1.000.000 pump. A record reached by Casappa for the first time in its history.

The Smart Pump Concept enables a simplification of the Electro-hydraulic system. Electronic controls and sensors are fully integrated in the pump.
